Run the Apple silicon diagnostic entry and preserve its result for service.
Built-in speaker output checks
Separate muted or redirected audio from silent built-in speakers.
Planning estimate; excludes charging, cooling, backups and service. Not a measured repair time.
Confirm the exact model
Select a model confirmation to begin the checks. The full preparation guide is below.
Preparation guide
Check the app’s own volume and mute controls. Try another known audio file to separate a silent file from an output problem.

Disconnect headphones and external speakers. Check whether a connected display or Bluetooth device is receiving audio.

Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS) → Sound → Output. Select the MacBook Air speakers, raise volume carefully, and clear mute.

Replay the same known file and compare the result. Keep whether the built-in speakers were selectable and whether another output worked.

Check the result
- Save the selected output and volume finding. Recheck before reconnecting a dock or headset.
- If the built-in output stays silent with known audio, contact Apple support. Do not infer the amplifier or speaker assembly from this alone.
Stop conditions
- Stop using and charging a swollen or damaged battery. Do not open, compress, puncture, or attempt battery removal. Contact the manufacturer or a qualified service provider.
- Disconnect a damaged accessory if it is safe to do so. Do not open a mains power adapter.
- Save accessible data before restarting. Do not reset, erase, flash firmware, bypass a lock, or open the enclosure in this task.
